5 Ideas For Decorating Your Kitchen on a Budget
By Ray Hanley

Most people avoid any kind of redecorating because of the huge expense involved in redecorating. The good news is that redecorating does not have to be that expensive, especially if you know what you are doing. Redecorating your kitchen is one of the rooms that people dread most because of how much is involved in redecorating a kitchen. The reason for this is how much is involved in decorating a kitchen; you have cabinets, appliances, flooring, etc.

If you are thinking about redecorating your kitchen, but do not have a lot of money to spend there is still plenty that you can do to give your kitchen that new and updated look. Here are five ideas for decorating your kitchen on a budget.

Number one: Paint
Painting is one of the cheapest things that you can do when redecorating your kitchen, as long as you know how to do it yourself. When repainting your kitchen you will need to pick a color or even two colors out that will work with the look that you are trying to create, but you also want the colors to coordinate with what you currently have in the kitchen. For example, if you are not going to redo the yellow floor you do not want to choose hot pink paint because those will not look good together.

Number two: Cabinets
Rather than replacing all of your kitchen cabinets you can give your cabinets a new look be resurfacing the cabinets. How this works is you will need to replace all of the doors to your kitchen cabinets, but you leave the cabinets themselves alone. In addition to changing the doors to the cabinets, you can also replace all of the hardware to the doors and drawers to an updated style. When replacing the hardware make sure you measure the space correctly, so the new handles fit in the same places as the old handles.

Number three: Borders
After you have repainted, you can choose a nice wallpaper border to hang up in the kitchen. The great thing about the wallpaper border is that it can create a drastic change, but is also easy to take down if you get bored with it. If you do not like the idea of wallpaper borders, you can always stencil your own border along the wall. When applying a border you can do it around the top of the wall or you can add one at chair height or even as a back-splash along your counters.

Number four: Molding
With molding, you can install molding around your kitchen cabinets or you can put a molding up along the wall. The type of molding that you use for the wall will be different from the stuff that you use on the kitchen cabinets, but both will dramatically change your kitchen style. You can also add some decorative molding that coordinates with what you have already chosen to the doorway.

Number five: Flooring
Most people do not even notice how old and dingy their kitchen floor is, but it is always something that needs to be updated after a certain length of time. If you install the kitchen flooring yourself you can save a ton of money, you can often find vinyl tiles for as low as $.50 a square foot. Just keep in mind that the cheaper flooring will not last as long, so you might want to go with a tile that is a bit higher priced.
